An Engineer, Bureaucrat & Politician, Ajit Jogi -First CM of chhatisgarh

Ajit Jogi, the first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, has died.
Jogi suffered two cardiac arrests over the past week.
He became the first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh when the state was born in 2000 .
He left the Congress in 2016 and formed his own party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J),however party failed to make a mark in 2018 assembly election .
He had a long association with the Nehru-Gandhi family.
An officer of the Indian Police Service and Indian Administrative Service, he came into contact with Rajiv Gandhi when he was DM of Indore .When Rajiv became the prime minister after assassination of his mother ,he convinced jogi to quit the service and join the Congress.
In 1986, Mr Jogi entered the Rajya Sabha, where he remained for two terms till 1998. In 1998, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Raigarh and won.
When Chhattisgarh was formed in 2000, the then Congress president had handpicked him as chief minister .
He fought loksabha election again in 2004,in which he met a car accident which left him partially paralysed during election campaign ,however he won the seat by nearly huge margin .
It was the only seat the Congress won in Chhattisgarh in 2004 and Jogi’s status rose in the state. The Congress contested 2008 assembly election under his leadership but lost to Raman Singh led BJP .
He studied Mechanical Engineering at Maulana Azad college of engineering ,Bhopal winning the University Gold Medal in 1968. He worked briefly as a lecturer at the National Institute of Technology, Raipur, before he was selected for both the Indian Police Service and Indian Administrative Service.
he was closely associated with the welfare and development of the backward and weaker sections of the society, including the minorities, the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, the leprosy patients, and the handicapped.
Born on 26 April, 1946 in a village Pendra Road of Bilaspur District in Madhya Pradesh, India. His father name was Shri Kashi Prasad Jogi. He married Dr. Renu Jogi and both have a daughter and a son namely Anusha Jogi and Amit Jogi.
His hobbies were reading, writing, and hunting .He also liked swimming, gliding, trekking, horse riding and yoga. He had written several articles on public administration, poems and stories that were published in prestigious newspapers .
